Maintenance Tip-Database Backups
Are you performing daily backups on your schedule and content database? If the answer is no we strongly recommend that you perform daily backups or at least 3X per week to avoid losing too much data in the event of a major malfunction.  If you have VLM v2.80 or greater it will backup your system each night and save the most recent 7 days.  Earlier versions will save one day.  To check your ability to create backups go to the View/Setup/General tab from the VLM Event Screen.  If you see Primary Backup Folder and Secondary Backup Folder and the fields are empty then your system can perform nightly backups but is not setup to do so.  If folders are defined then your system is setup for nightly backups.

To define a backup folder simply create a folder on the network in a different computer and browse to that folder from either the Primary or Secondary Backup Folder.  If you don't see these fields then you have an early version of VLM that does not support backups.  You can either perform this function manually or better yet, you can upgrade so the system does it for you.

Backup folders can be located on other networked computers as well as a USB Memory Stick installed in the computer that runs your VLM Automation or Video On Demand software.

Periodically check your backup folders and make sure they show the previous date in the folder to confirm the backups are being made.  If you have any questions about this please call our Customer Support Line at 800-601-6991 and ask for assistance.
