How to Manage Project Files
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Keeping your Project files organized will go a long way toward saving you time in the future. Here are some thoughts on how to organize and manage your Project files.
Start by creating a master folder called Informa Projects. Locate this folder in the most convenient area for your work habits under My Documents or on the Desktop as an example. Create a sub-folder or folder within the master folder for each Project that you have. Name the Project so it is easy to identify from just the sub-folder name. Keep all of the images, text files and finished Project files in the sub-folder. If you use the same image in multiple Projects make copies of that image in each Project folder. Do not create additional sub-folders with-in your sub-folders to keep things simple. We also recommend that when you name a graphic also include the size of that graphic in the name. As an example..."blue720x480bg.bmp" tells you that this image is blue and it is 720x480 which is sized for a background image. A red bar might be named "redbar 40x300.bmp". The point here is to name the image so it provides more than just the name. It will save you time later. |
| How To Create Templates From Projects
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can use a previously created Project to create Templates so you have multiple versions of similar Projects. To create a Template select a Project from the master folder. Copy the entire Project folder and then rename it to the new Project. As an example...let's assume you have created a "What's Up Next!" Project and the graphics are various versions of blue and you want to create another version of this but make the graphics red. Save that entire folder and rename it What's Up Next - Red. Open the file and start the Project. It should ask you to browse to the various files. Do that so all of the files are linked together. Next, select the graphics you wish to change and open them up in your graphics program (i.e. Adobe Photoshop). Change the color of the graphic from blue to red and save it using the different color and image size so you will know what it is. Now you have two Projects you can use for your What's Up Next lower third alert. You can repeat this same process to create multiple Projects with different looks so your on-screen image is always fresh. |
