K-12 IPTV Solutions
As analog TV's are phased out in K-12 classrooms they are being replaced by projectors connected to classroom PC's. This starts a chain reaction that moves TV away from coax to the network. Network speeds are now fast enough so that schools can move all of their video requirements away from coax and onto the local and wide area networks which helps cut costs because it eliminates an expensive piece of infrastructure...the Cable TV system and creates the IPTV system.
IPTV expands the display options from TV only to include projectors, desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile devices thus closing the loop in the convergence of traditional television and the Internet at the school level and includes a variety of applications like video on demand where teachers can access video at any time and include video as part of their lesson plans more frequently. Other uses include live events such as school announcements, athletic events, special guest lectures and cable TV conversion. Previously, live events took complicated equipment and multiple personnel to set up cameras and other equipment but today it can be as simple as a digital video camera and a computer connected to a network to stream an event live anywhere on your network or beyond to include the Internet.
- IPTV saves money and is more cost effective than in-house cable networks since it uses your existing network cabling without requiring coax with it's associated modulators and amplifiers and every desktop, laptop and mobile device becomes a potential display device so you can reach far beyond the install base of school TV's.
- IPTV is more "network friendly" today and provides controls to limit bandwidth utilization and reduce interference with data traffic.
However, IPTV presents new problems that need simple solutions:
