     Florida Knowledge Network

The Florida Knowledge Network is pleased to announce that schools and school districts in the state of Florida can now securely download programming directly from the extensive video library at the Florida Department of Education using VideoCourier from Synergy Broadcast Systems.  VideoCourier is an automated datacasting solution that enables you to search the FKN content database and request that programming be downloaded during the night to your local Synergy Broadcast or VideoCourier server.  The VideoCourier software and hardware will communicate securely with the same equipment at FKN to provide you with an improved way to obtain programming.

Lee County Schools uses VideoCourier to provide educational video to classrooms throughout the district in the Ft. Myers area.

PHASE 1 - Internet Download

During the first phase you will be able to download programming using a broadband connection only.  In the next phase we will offer downloads via FKN’s satellite feed as a datacast.

Automated Encoding/Recording Option

If you don’t have broadband you can use the VideoCourier system to set up an automated recording schedule.  Using the VideoCourier software is easy and more accurate than trying to program a VCR.

Two formats can be recorded…MPEG2 which can be used to playback over your in-school cable system to classroom televisions or Windows Media which can be viewed on computer desktops and projectors that are connected to computers.

How It Works

Your school must be in the state of Florida and your school or district must have a User ID from FKN and a VideoCourier system to access the library and search for programming.  Your faculty and staff must also have a User ID to access your local VideoCourier from your school’s secure, local area network.  A web browser interface is used to search and request programming.  If a program is not available on your local server simply click to submit a request and it will be downloaded that same night for Video On Demand use the next day.

Register

To register for VideoCourier please email the Florida Knowledge Network and provide your school name, address, phone and FKN Coordinator.  We will provide you with a User ID that can be used to log-in to FKN and browse our extensive library of video content to select a program and have it sent automatically to your local VideoCourier over night.

Existing Synergy Broadcast Systems customers should contact Synergy Broadcast Systems at 800-601-6991 ext 320 or email tcarey@synergybroadcast.com to add the VideoCourier software upgrade option.

“We chose Synergy Broadcast Systems primarily because, quite simply, they listened when we explained our vision” quotes Tony Short, Director of Television Services at Bowling Green State University,  “Other vendors came to the table with preconceived notions of solutions that best fit their own products and were only marginally a solution to our project.  Synergy Broadcast listened to us and helped us design the best total solution.” Kim Bowman, Director, The Florida Knowledge Network states, “The Florida Department of Education chose the PEG-i-SYS System from Synergy Broadcast based on industry research and a desire to remain cost effective and have flexible expansion options.”
